Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship
The $5000 Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship’s aim is to recognize and assist academically outstanding second-year law students who are also Alabama residents, and, further, to help promising law students become lawyers who will make a positive impact on society. A runner-up scholarship of $1000 may be awarded at the selection committee’s discretion.
The Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship was endowed in 1987 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O’Neal of Birmingham and Mobile. The scholarship is named in honor and memory of the law firms founding partners, Edward Harmon Cabaniss and Forney Johnston. The Alabama Law Foundation administers the scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a law student who is an Alabama resident attending an ABA accredited law school in the second year of study. Beyond those requirements, academic achievement is the key factor in determining eligibility for the scholarship. However, conscientiousness, dependability, civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest standards are taken into consideration.
The recipients of the Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship have attended prestigious institutions such as Alabama, Vanderbilt, Harvard, Yale and Columbia. They are representatives of the next generation of legal professionals who will become leaders in their profession and their communities.
